Announcing Fog City Harmonia, a new women's ensemble!
Fog City is excited to announce the founding of Harmonia, a women’s ensemble in the Fog City organization!
Effective February 2019, Fog City Harmonia (FCH) will begin operations with a three-rehearsal trial phase culminating in a debut concert for friends and family on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 4:00pm at the Kanbar Performing Arts Center in San Francisco.
FCH’s founding team—Addy Mendoza, Alisa Peters, Jessica Blackshaw, Karen Maass, and Kelly Sopher—will seed the chorus’s initial roster with a curated list of known high-caliber singers, following the model of the Fog City Singers (founded in Fall 2015), Central Standard (a Kansas City-based barbershop chorus founded in 2007), and other recently formed barbershop-oriented ensembles around the United States. Auditions will open to new singers shortly thereafter.
Like the Fog City Singers (FCS), Harmonia will be rooted in the barbershop style but will embrace choral, contemporary a cappella, and other styles of ensemble music as well. And unlike other women’s barbershop choruses in the Bay Area, Harmonia has explicitly opted to organize themselves as members of the Barbershop Harmony Society rather than Sweet Adelines International or Harmony, Inc. This will enable Harmonia and Fog City to operate jointly as a single organization, facilitating a close partnership as we explore new ways in which to further the San Francisco barbershop (r)evolution.
