SPring CONCERTS: "CITY WALK"
Fog City opens 2018 with an all-new concert set featuring music about cities past and present. We'll also debut our two contest pieces that we'll be performing at the 2018 International Barbershop Chorus Contest in Orlando this summer!
RACHMANINOFF'S ALL-NIGHT VIGIL
On Fri 4/27 and Sat 4/28, Fog City will join the 100-voice San Francisco Choral Society to perform Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil—in Slavonic!—at St. Ignatius Church in the city. FCS will open the concert with a 20-minute performance of our own music.
The Fog City Singers are a men's vocal ensemble in San Francisco (est. Fall 2015).
We like barbershop—we recently finished 9th at the 2017 Int'l Barbershop Chorus Contest—but we love other music too.
Our mission is to create a close fraternity of musicians; to apply diverse, world-class resources to our art; and to revolutionize how barbershop music is performed and appreciated.
We rehearse in San Francisco on select Monday nights and Saturday mornings at:
Want to spend a rehearsal with us? Come visit! We love guests. See our calendar below for exact rehearsal dates.
We value diverse musical backgrounds. We value virtuosity. We value humility. We take our music-making seriously, but we never take ourselves seriously.
If you're an experienced singer interested in singing with us—for just one set or forever!—you can audition at the beginning of our next concert set.
In November 2017, we presented our fall concert: A Little Folk 'n Poetry. The program featured folk songs and choral settings of poetic texts, all hailing from the Americas and the British Isles. The piece below is David's Lamentation, an American colonial tune from composer William Billings (1778).
And here is a snippet of Jim Clancy's "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" from the same concert:
In July 2017, we competed in the Barbershop Harmony Society's 2017 International Chorus Contest. Through some small miracle—and through a lot of hard, focused work—we placed 9th in a supremely talented field of groups from all over the world. Here are our two songs: Who's Lovin' You (Smokey Robinson, arr. A. Dale) and 'Til I Hear You Sing (from "Love Never Dies," arr. T. Hicks).
